Hoooody to all my Junior Deputies,

The end of last month, there was a day that scared me. Everyone dressed up like monsters, and they looked pretty scary. I heard Sheriff Ricochet say that it was called Halloween and it is an old custom that he thinks was supposed to confuse the evil spirits on all hallows eve. When I got scared he told me that it was just the kids dressing up and not to worry, so I helped hand out some candy to the kids. I’m not scared anymore, because now I know that it is just you guys.

Sheriff Ricochet told me that this month is Thanksgiving. I asked him what it was all about and he told me that a long time ago, when the pilgrims first came to America, they didn’t know how to survive here, so they were hungry and thinking of going home back to England. But they met and made friends with the Indians (Native Americans), and they showed the people some of the things they could grow and eat. They had a great feast, and gave thanks for their new friends and the things that they taught them. The Indians brought a big bird that the pilgrims never saw before called a Turkey, and that’s why we eat turkey at Thanksgiving. So remember to give thanks for everything you have before eating that great big juicy Turkey. I think I will give thanks for Sheriff Ricochet, you guys, having food in my dish everyday, and even for having a friend like Miss Kitty.

Calico is having another festival called Heritage Festival. It’s the weekend of Thanksgiving and we at Calico give thanks for our family’s roots, I don’t know much about my family before I was born, because I never met my Grandma and Grandpa, or any of my aunts or uncles. How many of you guys know where your families came from? Maybe when all your family gets together this Thanksgiving you could ask them and then you’ll know. We at Calico give thanks for the miners that worked so hard to make Calico a thriving silver mining town, and that Walter Knotts bought it and made it alive again.

Well I better go now. I have chores to do, and if I don’t get them done this morning I will have twice as much to do this afternoon. Oh! Miss Kitty says to tell you guys to draw some pictures of her and send them to Sheriff Ricochet so she can see them I guess she is feeling alittle left out, because some of you drew me some nice pictures and sent them to me. So draw them, and send them, and lets make her feel better about herself, but don’t tell her that I told you to do it, because she will get all mushy on me.

Bye for now Deputy Dog Hoot
